Spirit Airlines recently announced that four new cities will be added to its daily routes from Newark Liberty International airport this year— including two major cities in California.

The US-based carrier is known among travelers for providing some of the best value airfares across the country, as well as à la carte options for seating and luggage.

Spirit Airlines customers can begin flying from Newark to Los Angeles on May 5, Pittsburgh and Indianapolis on June 22, and then to Oakland on August 10.

This will provide travelers from the New York and New Jersey markets the opportunity to fly to the West Coast at a more affordable rate than its competitors and create another transportation method for routes to Pittsburgh and Indianapolis instead of connecting flights or getting on Amtrak and Greyhound.

Also, as an option for horse racing fans, Spirit is adding a flight to Louisville, Kentucky on May 5 from Newark for customers who wish to attend the Kentucky Derby with return flights three days later.

The Kentucky Derby is an annual event that happens on the first Saturday in May, and this year will be the 148th year of the competition.

When routes to the four new destinations launch, Spirit will be offering up to 24 daily departures from Newark Airport. This doubles the number of flights from 2019, and should increase the company’s sales due to many states lifting their COVID mandates.

Spirit is the fourth-largest carrier at Newark Airport.

Loyal Spirit customers on the East Coast will surely benefit from the addition of the four cities this summer. The airline currently provides flights from Newark to Austin, Nashville, Miami, New Orleans and San Juan. They also have at least two routes per day to Atlanta, Fort Lauderdale, Houston, Las Vegas, Orlando, Myrtle Beach, Fort Myers and Tampa from Newark Liberty International Airport.
