When it comes to good cocktails and drinks, New York City and London are known to be the best, and they have been, since 2009 when the World’s 50 Best Bars list was created. As with most things in life, times have changed, and there’s a new city that holds the title of the world’s best bar.

Paradiso, located in Barcelona, Spain, has been crowned the world’s best bar according to the World’s 50 Best Bars list for 2022. This is the first time a bar outside of New York or London has ranked #1 on the list. The ceremony was held in Barcelona this year making it the first time London wasn’t the host city.

The list is determined from 650 bartenders, bar owners, drink writers, and cocktail experts’ votes.

This Mediterranean-inspired speakeasy ranked number 3 on last year’s list. To visit, you’ll have to enter through the freezer door of a pastrami bar in the El Born district of Barcelona.

Paradiso’s co-owner Giacomo Giannotti tells 50 Best, “It’s a big honor to win and a big responsibility. We will work hard to live up to being the best and stick to our principles. Our cocktails try to push creativity.”

Barcelona is home to three out of the top 10 bars on this year’s list. Four bars in Spain ranked in the top 50.

New York and London’s rankings

The two cities might not have come in at number one on this year’s list, but 5 bars in London and six bars in New York ranked in the top 50.
