If you can’t get to one of these European islands this year, then make that a must for 2024. Mainland Europe offers plenty to do, but if you’re able to set aside a few days to visit some of the islands, you won’t regret it.
Flying is always the fastest way; however, in some cases, only a ferry or other watercraft can take you where you want to go. You can fly to mainland Europe, get your bearings for a few days, then hop on another flight to your island paradise.
You can expect sun, sand and great food during your visit. The isle of Europe are chock full of great backdrops for Instagram photos. Once you post them, you’ll get more views and comments than you can imagine.

Corsica – France
This French island is the fourth largest in the Mediterranean, and it’s known for its sandy beaches and mountainous terrain.
Aside from swimming in the sea, explore the trails which run parallel to the coastline. Horse riding and biking are possible, but there’s a clear benefit to navigating on foot at your own pace.
The cuisine that is full of flavor and French and Italian influences. It also has year-round sunshine and the Parc Naturel Régional de Corse.
Sardinia – Italy
The capital city of Cagliari is picturesque with historic streets, restaurants and boutiques.
As far as natural features go, La Pelosa Beach is probably the most beautiful on the island, has fine white sand and calm waters.
Sardinia is serviced by three airports: Cagliari, Olbia and Alghero. Ferry options also are available.
The Balearic Islands – Spain
The four largest isles here are Ibiza, Mallorca, Menorca and Formentera. It almost doesn’t matter when you go. The weather will be pleasant.
If you’re coming from Miami, New York or Los Angeles, you can fly directly into Barcelona or Madrid. Spend a few days in either city, then hop on a smaller plane to Ibiza, Menorca and Mallorca. Formentera doesn’t have an airport, so you will have to talk a ferry.
Of the four “sisters,” Ibiza is the party animal. If partying is your vibe, she’ll make sure to entertain you.
Corfu – Greece
Corfu, along with Mykonos and Santorini, are frequently visited.
Corfu town is frozen in time, and some of the structures recall Venice. There are different kinds of eateries here from beach side tavernas to five-star dining establishments.
Skye – Scotland
This island can hardly be called tropical, but the scenery is epic. It measures 50 miles, and it’s connected to the northwest coast of Scotland by bridge.
A frequently photographed site is The Old Man of Storr, which isn’t far from Portree, the capital. It truly resembles a scene ripped out of Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones.
Dunvegan Castle has a long history and attracts quite a few tourists. Also, it’s the the only Highland fortress to have been continuously occupied by the same family for 800 years, according to the site.
