Airbnb Host Removed After Sending Threatening Texts To Black Doctor For Leaving 4-Star Review
An Airbnb host has been removed from the home-sharing platform after threatening a Black doctor for leaving a four-star review.
Dr. Alex More, who was staying at a home listed in Vancouver, British Columbia, posted the frightening messages from the Airbnb host on Twitter.
“I have your picture, your name, and your number,” the host texted her in a threatening message. “You have 48 hours to remove your review, or I’m hiring a private investigator to obtain your address, and then the fun begins.”
In the interest of my own personal safety as well as public safety, @Airbnb @AirbnbHelp: Can you explain to me and everyone else why the host who sent me this message is still active on your platform? This person is clearly a threat and should not be allowed to host guests. pic.twitter.com/JJHA1mRwLQ— Dr. Alex Moore (@Dr_AlexM) June 18, 2022
According to Moore, the host was upset because she had left a review of 4/5, bringing their average rating down from a 5 to a 4.95.
Airbnb eventually removed the 1-bedroom and 1-bathroom listing by Brad, but Moore had to get law enforcement involved first.
“I just spoke with Vancouver PD, and they will be sending someone over to tell the host to leave me alone ‘or else,’ she stated. “They may also revoke his license to participate in house-share programs. Fingers crossed.”
I have already contacted local authorities, but beyond protecting myself, @Airbnb @AirbnbHelp has an obligation to the public to act. Their listing is still active as of this posting and should be taken down immediately. pic.twitter.com/YVzhvj9oNh— Dr. Alex Moore (@Dr_AlexM) June 18, 2022
Moore says Airbnb finally removed the listing and thanked her for going to the police.
“Thank you so much for bringing this to our attention,” said Airbnb.
The platform added, “We have concluded our investigation and can confirm for you that we have removed the host’s account and listing from Airbnb.”
