September means that the joys of summer are coming to an end.  Temperatures are dropping, school is about to begin, and those long summer days will begin to get shorter and shorter.

It sounds depressing but there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Peak travel time is over which means that September is a great time to plan a vacation.

If you’re not ready to say goodbye to summer just yet, here are some of the best destinations for September that will allow you to hold on to the sun a little longer, according to Skyscanner.

Canary Islands

Places like London and Paris are about to get cool as we approach the next season, but the Canary Islands is perfect year-round.

According to Skyscanner, Lanzarote is perfect during this time of year because average round-trip flight prices are down by at least 16%.

To get the most out of your stay,  head down to Playas de Papagayo, a string of golden-sand beaches unlike anywhere else in the world.

Rome, Italy

Rome is an ancient city that never gets old, but if we can be honest,  summertime in Rome can be brutal, especially when you add the summer crowds to the equation.

Rome in September is a better time for walking around to enjoy what this magical city has to offer without getting ran over by visitors.

This doesn’t mean you will avoid tourists completely.  If that’s the case,  then get the most of the weather by spending your time on the outskirts of the city.

If you are looking for the beach, Skyscanner analysts recommend Santa Marinella up north, or the picturesque beach town of Sperlonga, located in the south.

Lisbon, Portugal

Use September to enjoy Lisbon while you can.   Over the last few years,  Lisbon has become a top city among vacationers.

Lisbon has a unique mix of photogenic Azulejo tiles and yellow trams, fresh seafood, warm weather, and fado music, and it tends to be cheaper than most European cities.

September in Lisbon promises sunny days, with little chance of rain, according to Skyscanner.

Zanzibar, Tanzania

A trip to the East African islands this September means you will avoid peak travel and the rainy season, according to Skyscanner.

This only means that a trip in September guarantees a good, sunny time.

At the top of your to-do list should be a trip to Stone Town, the oldest part of the capital in Zanzibar City. Here is where you discover the town’s history of trade and vibrant culture.
