The Caribbean loans itself to romance. Time is an illusion. The sunny days are followed by balmy nights. That sip of rum punch is extra tasty. The sand on the beach you’re walking on feels like sugar. And best of all, if you live in the United States, it’s only a few hours away by plane.

The Caribbean consists of approximately 7,000 islands, islets and keys, some of which aren’t inhabited. All of them have their own allure. Some are rugged and ideal for adventure, while others are more polished.

We’ve narrowed down five islands endowed with a certain brand of sex appeal. Have you been to any of them?

Jamaica

Is it even possible to have a “sexy Caribbean” list without this juggernaut?

When asked why he believes Jamaica stands alone on the Caribbean stage, Donnie Dawson of the Jamaica Tourist Board shared his thoughts.

“While all the islands have their charms, Jamaica is far more culturally diverse than any of our Caribbean neighbors,” he said. “It’s exotic and sexy, and our reggae music is famous around the world. The landscape is also really special, with huge mountains and beautiful beaches making the whole island a sight to behold.”

There are some fantastic stretches of sand here, including Reggae Beach, Frenchman’s Cove and the legendary Seven Mile Beach.

Not to be outdone by Jamaica’s other natural features like its waterfalls and the Blue Hole of Ocho Rios. These can be great backdrops for your Instagram posts.

Lest we forget: Hedonism! This is the resort to go to if you’re looking to spice things up a bit. Feel free to let it all hang out, except while dining. There’s a cannabis dispensary, sexy themed parties and designated areas for play.

Cuba

In an account of her trip, Namita Kulkarni quoted her retreat organizer, who said, “flirting is Cuba’s national game.”

Well, that and baseball.

Kulkarni noticed that the Cuban people carry themselves with certain confidence, and the men make no bones about finding certain women attractive. But generally, that attraction isn’t expressed in a creepy way.

“Men dramatically express their appreciation of female beauty – their words and body language exuding no desperation, aggression, entitlement or dominance,” she wrote.

Anywhere Cuba explained, “Cubans are a highly sensual people. They kiss openly and are indulgent in their attitudes about sex. Women stare down locals and foreigners alike, making catcalls and kissing noises as you pass. The country is erotic and bold in its suggestions. Sex is a pastime, and, like some Cubans say, is one of the few things that Castro couldn’t restrict or ration.”

St. Lucia

You may hear St. Lucia referenced with feminine terms, since her nickname is “Helen of The West Indies.”

Don’t be deceived by the island’s diminutive size. She’s mighty and blessed with scenery so spectacular, you’ll swear you’re looking through a filter.

But you aren’t. The rain forest really is that lush, and the water really is that blue.

If you and bae are looking to sweat bullets, hire a guide to explore The Pitons. Your legs will feel like jello, so other than a massage, take it easy for the rest of the day.

For yet more adventure, do some ziplining through the rainforest, soak in the sulphur springs and take a guided tour of the cacao groves.

And if you really want to immerse yourself in nature and chocolate, consider staying a few nights at Rabot Hotel.

Dominica

While we’re on the subject of adventure, check out Dominica.

Google frequently asks if you mean “Dominican Republic,” but these islands are quite different.

You can get to Dominica via ferry from St. Lucia. But be sure to check the schedule in advance.  Service may still be limited in the COVID era.

“The Nature Island” takes pride in being rough around the edges. It’s home to the second-largest hot lake in the world, Boiling Lake. Great for photos, but not for swimming!

When you need respite from all the hiking, watersports and horseback riding, Dominica beckons you to relax.

You can arrange for a massage therapist to come to your villa, or make an appointment for you and bae at one of the spas.

The Bahamas

This archipelago has sixteen major islands popular with tourists.

According to the official website, “The Bahamas is an unmatched destination, a heart-pounding adventure across 100,000 square miles of the world’s clearest ocean.”

As far as romance goes, why not exchange vows on a secluded sandbar? It’s possible.

Which are the most romantic beaches? Well, that’s pretty subjective.

A World To Travel lists the following: Tahiti Beach (Abacos), Pink Sands Beach (Harbor Island), Pig Beach (The Exumas), Gold Rock Beach (Grand Bahama) and Guana Cay Beach (Abacos).
