Over 4,000 New York City healthcare workers are receiving complimentary vacations courtesy of American Airlines and Hyatt hotels. 

Workers ranging from doctors, nurses, physician assistants, and food-service workers at NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst in Queens, NYC will be receiving three-day vacations to destinations within the U.S. and the Caribbean once travel is safe to resume. 

Israel Rocha, the CEO of NYC Health + Hospitals in Elmhurst shared in a news release, “We are extremely grateful to Hyatt and American Airlines for this generous gift to our healthcare workers, who have been at the epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Rocha goes on to say, “Our doctors, nurses, and other staff on the front lines of this unprecedented healthcare crisis really appreciate the outpouring of support from two of America’s major companies, and we look forward to taking advantage of these well-earned vacations in the near future.”

Robert Isom, President of American Airlines shared in a news release, “Every worker at Elmhurst has seen and experience challenges many of us cannot imagine. They’ve given so much of themselves and chose to serve their community with care, compassion, and equity for every patient. When they are able to take a break, we hope the time away will help them and their loved ones recharge and that they feel our deepest appreciation for their sacrifice and heroism.”

New York City is one of the epicenters of the COVID-19 pandemic.
