Having visited Riviera Maya a few years ago, I was excited to return at the top of the year. Situated south of Cancun, Mexico, Riviera Maya graces the picturesque Caribbean coastline in Quintana Roo, nestled in the eastern Yucatán Peninsula. Riviera Maya is a postcard-perfect destination for rejuvenation. It’s perfect for both families and solo travelers alike.

As an avid solo traveler, I made a goal for 2024 to travel and indulge in joyful experiences with friends and family. To kick this off, I traveled to Riviera Maya with my auntie. Our place of retreat for the weekend was AAA Five Diamond Grand Velas Riviera Maya, where Mexican culture meets contemporary design. Our stay was nothing short of magical.

Travelers at Grand Velas Riviera Maya can experience Michelin-star quality dining crafted by world-renowned chefs, including disciples of Northern Spain’s famed Arzak. Soak in Mayan-inspired spa treatments infused with gourmet elements like coffee, Yucatecan honey, and cacao. Explore eco-friendly initiatives through onsite tours and savor creatively crafted cocktails inspired by Mayan astrology. With top-notch butler service and an all-inclusive experience, Grand Velas Riviera Maya promises an unforgettable getaway.

There’s no shortage of fun to be had at Grand Velas. While the resort is perfect for just sitting by the pool, there are also many ways travelers can connect and learn more about Mexican culture and heritage, making Grand Velas truly unique. Here’s what travelers can expect on their next escape to paradise.

Luxury Afloat on Insuite Plunge Pools

The rooms at Grand Velas are the true definition of luxury. To add to the already extraordinary stay, Grand Velas in Riviera Maya now offers a “Float My Boat” experience! This over-the-top amenity includes Imperial Ossetra Caviar accompanied with blinis, creme fraiche, and chives, along with an assorted selection of luxury appetizers and desserts including Jamón ibérico, king crab legs, smoked salmon, a selection of cheese, fresh berries, and a chocolate dessert. Champagne Louis Roederer Brut Premier is included. It’s the ultimate ‘treat ya self’ amenity.

Honey Tasting

I’ve never done a honey tasting before, so I thought this activity was unique and fun. The resort recently debuted a new bee sanctuary, the Meliponario, to protect the local Maya Melipona Bee. In addition to preserving the species and facilitating their honey production, the resort now offers an experience for guests to learn more about the species with a new eco-tour and honey tasting. The new eco-tour begins with a visit to the hotel’s organic orchard to learn about the pollination process and the importance of the Melipona bees. Chef Nahum Velasco of the hotel’s highly regarded Cocina de Autor restaurant then leads guests through a honey tasting with samples from different parts of the country.
