Murals are gorgeous, and often intricate, works of art painted onto large surfaces — particularly walls. The beauty of these creations is that they can also serve as an instant backdrop to add some vibrance to your travel pics.

There are hundreds of murals worldwide, and too many to mention in the United States alone. Here are a few to check out if you’re in the neighborhood.

Denver artist Pat Milberry loved the city so much that he created an ode to it through a series of murals. As for the meaning behind this magnificent mural, he told Denver.org, “The different tones of color express the different stages of being in love and the feeling of when you love, your heart can project. Love is a very simple concept, yet can become very complex and layered.”

Pro tip: afternoon is the best time for viewing.
