The Daily Beast reports, “King Charles III could strip Meghan Markle and Prince Harry of their princely titles, if they continue to make incendiary allegations against the royal family.”

A six-part docu-series featuring the young couple, will premiere on Netflix on Thursday. It hasn’t even dropped yet, and it has already sparked a fair amount of anxiety across the pond.

No matter your stance on the British royal family, one thing is certain. There hasn’t been a dull moment in the centuries of its existence. From Henry VIII’s colorful marital life, to the ongoing saga of Meghan and Harry, drama is omnipresent.

Ever since Meghan became part of the family through her marriage to Harry, the British media has shown her little more than contempt and hostility. That, coupled with allegations of racism within the royal family, prompted Meghan and Harry to leave and raise their children in California.

Meghan is the second American to marry into the British royal family, after Wallis Simpson, who married King Edward VIII in 1937.

For Now, The Titles Of Meghan And Harry Are Secure

As of now, Meghan and Harry are still the Duchess and Duke of Sussex.

Harry will almost certainly never be king. His brother, William, is next in line, and has three children.

The Daily Beast explains, “the monarch [King Charles III] is understood to have the power to stop Harry using the title ‘prince,’ meaning Meghan would also lose her status as a princess. Although given Meghan rarely uses her ‘princess’ title, this would not be much of a punishment.”

Leaving The Royal Family Had Consequences

When Meghan and Harry announced they would be leaving the royal family, “they were asked to stop using their HRH (His or Her Royal Highness) titles.”

They also couldn’t mention “royal in any commercial branding.”

But the consequences went beyond this.

Some suggested that Meghan had rocked the boat out of spite, and was singularly responsible for Prince Harry’s decision to step back from royal duties.

King Charles III Might Have To Tread Carefully

The King would have to get Parliament to strip Meghan and Harry of their princely titles.

If he does, however, it might be the equivalent of kicking a hornet’s nest.

A source told The Daily Beast, “Charles will be very cautious of repeating the mistakes made with Diana. When she was stripped of her HRH after the divorce, it fed into her narrative that the palace was a vindictive and cruel establishment.”

“Imagine if they did something similar to Harry. He would be able to go on Oprah all over again and say, ‘they did it to my mother and now they are doing it to me.’ It would completely play into their victim narrative.”

The Royals Are Carrying On As Usual

Meanwhile, members of the royal family have been busy with their duties.

Queen Camilla hosted an event which highlighted the global issue of violence against women and girls.

It was at this very event that Ngozi Fulani, founder of Sistah Space, had a racist encounter with a now former employee of the royal family.

Charles was recently in Bedfordshire on a series of assignments. A young man was arrested for allegedly throwing an egg at him.
