New Jersey continues to make strides to grow its Caribbean Diaspora community.
On Saturday, August 10, 2019, the city of Orange, NJ will be hosting the Caribbean Heritage Day Festival at Monte Irvin Park. The festival will celebrate the numerous contributions of Caribbean-Americans in New Jersey and the U.S. as a whole. This year marks the 19th year of the festival, with around 6,000 guests (and growing) in attendance each year.
Dwayne D. Warren, mayor of Orange, says, “Each year we get bigger and better and our guests get to sample such an incredible array of the Caribbean culture. We have food from Haiti, Jamaica, and Trinidad to name a few.”
He continued, “We want this to be a time when families can come together and sample the finest of our Caribbean community. We work hard to make sure that it’s a really fun and inclusive day.”
Performers include Da Big Show and local acts like King Tappa, BRP Zoe, George Prophet, AmDe and steel pan group Pan Evolution. International artists, Nessa Preppy “de Snack Boss” will also be performing.
You can expect an abundance of Caribbean food, music, dances, and arts and crafts.
This family-friendly event will have a “kiddie” section for kids to play games and enjoy rides.
