America’s 247th Independence Day is approaching fast and folks around the country are figuring out what to do for the holiday. If you’re in Chicago, there is plenty to see and do throughout the Fourth of July weekend. 

Chicago has been a Midwest hub for holiday festivities for a long time. The Fourth of July is no exception, with festivals, parties, concerts, and events all weekend. Depending on where you go, you might even run into a few celebrity Chicagoans back home to celebrate with their families.  

There’s a little bit of everything happening in Chicago this weekend. Whether you’re seeking fun for the whole family or trying to figure out where the party is at, there’s a lot in store for those visiting the Windy City this Fourth of July.

Navy Pier Fireworks

When: July 1, 2023

Where: 300 East Grand Avenue

Admission: Free

Every Saturday beginning on Memorial Day, locals and tourists can enjoy a fireworks display at the Chicago Navy Pier. Choose Chicago described it as “Chicago’s favorite sky spectacle” with the bright lights kicking off at 10 PM. If you won’t make it into town until the weekdays, you can also catch fireworks at the Navy Pier on Wednesday nights. The light show will take place every Saturday and Wednesday until Labor Day.

The 30th Annual African/Caribbean International Festival Of Life

Where: Washington Park, 55th Street and South Cottage Grove

Admission: $30

Celebrating 30 years of diversity, culture, and history, the Annual African Caribbean International Festival of Life is happening in Chicago during the Fourth of July weekend. Guests can expect a multitude of vendors, performances, food, and music over the four-day event. The theme for this year’s event is “One Beat. Many Nations.”

Bucktown-Wicker Park Pizza Crawl

Where: My Pi, 2010 N. Damen Ave

Admission: $59

If pizza is the key to your heart, Pizza City USA is hosting a Pizza Crawl in the Bucktown-Wicker Park neighborhood. The three-hour walk allows guests to experience different styles of Chicago pizza while exploring one of the city’s historic areas.

NASCAR Street Race Weekend

Where: Grant Park, 337 E Randolph St

Admission: $269-$353 for General Admission

For the first time ever, NASCAR is taking to the streets of Chicago for another installation of their street race weekend. Set against the backdrop of Lake Michigan, guests can watch the street race live as it’s televised by NBC. The event is for all ages with music, food, and entertainment happening throughout both days.
