In NYC, Gitano Island, a brand-new restaurant and Tulum beach club, just opened its doors this past June on Governors Island. Gitano started as a small Mezcal Bar & Kitchen in Tulum Beach at the end of 2013. Today it is a fresh, global hospitality and lifestyle brand with five locations and more on the way.

What To Expect:

The Mexican getaway-inspired waterfront property consists of 27,000 square feet of amenities you’d typically find on a beach in Tulum. Developers had their job cut out for them when transforming the urban space into a true tropical beach oasis with hundreds of plants and giant palms, 350 tons of imported sand, and an elegant restaurant.

The restaurant is at the center of the faux beach escape consisting of dining pergolas, an open-fire kitchen, sunbeds, cabanas, and a members-only lounge centered around a 40-foot water feature. Gitano Island is set to be the first and only property with a tented stage that, over the summer, will host various international DJs and live artist performances.
