The bar has been raised for what it means to go the extra mile in a relationship after a man was caught trying to sneak his way into Germany by posing as a cleaner.

The reason? It was an attempt to see his girlfriend.

As borders remain closed to foreigners to help curb the spread of the coronavirus, a 20-year-old Pennsylvania man decided to get creative.

Once he landed in Frankfurt on his United Airlines flight from Washington, DC, the young man put on a yellow neon vest that he brought with him to disguise himself as a janitor and grabbed two trash cans at the airport.

His original plan was to allegedly mingle with the airport security staff and exit the passport control area with the real workers, officials told ABC.  But staff grew suspicious after he made several attempts trying to empty the bins behind the security area where he was denied entry.

When an officer realized he was not wearing a security ID badge and unable to speak German,  the man was questioned by police.

Upon questioning, the man revealed that he tried sneaking in because he could not find any legal means to enter the country to see his German girlfriend, whom he met when she was in a student exchange program in the U.S.

“The boy wanted to protect her so he did not reveal her name,” a Federal police spokesman said.

After checking his records for criminal activity, the German Federal Police released the man who spent the night in the Frankfurt Airport transit area before being sent home.
