A recent survey by Travelzoo reveals that North Americans will be flocking to the Caribbean as fall and winter seasons approach. Among the countries listed as most desirable, the U.S. Virgin Islands (USVI) comes out on top.

Travelzoo’s survey found that travelers will feel safe vacationing in the Caribbean as long as there is a low number of COVID-19 cases, sanitation guidelines are clearly stated and there are travel deals.

According to Joseph Boschulte, Commissioner of Tourism, the results of the USVI, The Bahamas, Turks and Caicos, Aruba and Puerto Rico being desirable destinations by North Americans, was “a comforting confirmation of the efficacy of intelligent and efficient actions by the people of the USVI, led by Governor Albert Bryan Jr. and his special teams assembled to cope with the COVID-19 challenge.”

Boschulte goes on to say, “Our focus on health, hygiene and safety obviously resonated with these well-traveled people whose opinions are heeded by other potential travelers.”

The USVI’s Department of Tourism and the Department of Health developed the USVI Travel Screening Portal which ensures travelers are healthy upon arrival.

Commissioner Boschulte speaks of the screening initiative saying, “In addition to controlling any spread of COVID-19, the portal will be continually improved to provide a more efficient arrivals experience and guidelines for seamless stays for our visitors as well as residents returning home.”
