Thai Airways staff came to a colleague’s rescue to restrain a woman after she coughed at a flight attendant while passengers waited hours to get a coronavirus check.

The Chinese passenger allegedly coughed deliberately at the flight attendant because she was angry about a seven-hour wait at Shanghai Pudong International Airport from Bangkok where passengers had to be screened before disembarking the plane.

After coughing at the flight attendant,  Thai Airways flight crews approached the passenger and asked her to stop her “inappropriate behavior.”

In a video, which has been shared on social media, cabin crew can be seen putting the woman in a headlock.

The woman eventually calmed down and no further action was taken, according to local reports.

Thai Airways said that every passenger arriving in Shanghai or flying through the airport from countries with high occurrences of coronavirus cases, including Italy, South Korea, and Japan are required to be examined by medical staff on the aircraft before doors can be opened to let passengers off

“We could not open the doors of the plane until instructed to and health officials came to proceed with checks. Therefore, Thai Airways had to wait for seven hours before officials arrived at the inspection queue,” Prathana Pattanasiri, head of Thailand’s Aviation Safety Department, said.
