Leah Jones is an SEO writer for Blavity and across its various brand platforms. She is a spring 2023 graduate of the Department of Communications and Information Sciences at University of Alabama. Here she majored in news media with a minor in psychology. Though her career has begun with joining the Blavity team in August of 2023, Leah has experience working as the writing editor of UA’s Black Student Magazine, 1956 Magazine and working as writing editor and editor-in-chief of UA’s honor’s college magazine, Mosaic Magazine. Here she gained real journalistic experience during her college experience working with these all student run publications and occasionally collaborating with other publications such as UA’s newspaper The Crimson White. Leah also has skills in video editing. Leah mostly writes entertainment and media related stories for Blavity, feature and lifestyle content for 21Ninety and travel facts related content for Travel Noire. Her background in in-depth, research-based journalism and her interest in using journalism to help educate readers on diverse topics makes her a passionate, qualified writer for these brands. Leah hopes to continue writing for Blavity as well as other platforms to expand her career and continue educating others on societal issues that affect underrepresented communities, especially those pertaining to the Black community. When not writing, Leah’s favorite thing to do is sing and write music. She also enjoys video games, spending time with her friends and family and soaking up the sun.
